Thor Love and Thunder Review

I feel conflicted with this movie because, on one hand, I had a lot of fun watching it in theaters while on the other hand, I’ve been enjoying the more serious MCU movies more than this one. So, I both liked and just a teeny bit disliked it. My only, but pretty significant, problem was that there were too many jokes. It was constantly one joke after another, which is fine for a plain old comedy, but for a movie that is also trying to go over some serious stuff, it’s a little much. Almost any serious moment is basically forgotten because it’s overshadowed by funny. While Love and Thunder is definitely not in my top 10 MCU movies I do think it’s a good addition. I feel like it makes a good palate cleanser you know, after watching some sad/darker ones you get to watch a nice cheery one.

I also reluctantly feel like I have to mention the one thing that people would not shut up about with this movie…the CGI. I hope I’m not the only one here but I did not give a shit about “bad” CGI. I don’t know if I’m just easy to please when it comes to special effects but Thor was completely fine to me. Sure when people posted stills on Twitter they looked pretty fake but not once did I notice anything that looked like shit when watching the movie. And I like to think that that has something to do with the fact that movies are meant to be watched when they’re playing not when they’re paused.

So, all together I would give Thor Love and Thunder a 7 out of 10. Good but not my favorite.

Movie Review Dump

Due to a massive amount of procrastination, I am very late for these reviews so I thought I might as well give a little blurb for each movie. Because as you know better late than never!

The Bad Guys

This was one of those kids movies that is good but also falls into the sad trope that kids movies don’t need to be complex or too detailed. I had fun watching it but afterwards I just kept wondering/wishing they would have done a little world building. Specifically why were there only 7 anthropomorphic animals in the whole city and why was no one mentioning that?!?!?! So because it was an okay just lacking on the explanation I would give it a 6 out of 10.

Jurassic World Dominion

I know a lot of people didn’t like this movie but I say fuck that! I enjoyed it so much! I love all of the new types of dinos that they brought in that we haven’t seen before. I also really enjoyed the little nods to stuff from the other movies. All around I thought it was a perfect wrap-up of the Jurassic era. So I give it a solid 9 out of 10.

Lightyear

There’s not much I have to say about Lightyear except that it was a very good movie. I can’t really remember any flaws to it and I thought all the nods to the Buzz toy were cool. Because of that, I’m giving it an 8 out of 10.

Elvis

Biographies are always one of those things that I’m not sure I have the “right” to review since most of the time I don’t really know the actual story of the person, so I can’t say if it’s accurate or not. But I’ll try anyways I’m split on this movie because it was very interesting (if true) but it was extremely long for a biopic. But the length was the least of my concern, the biggest thing I wished they did was focus more on young Elvis. So really I’m not sure if I liked it or not so I’m giving it a 5 out of 10.
