The Sandman Review

This show was FLAWLESS! Actually, that’s not true, there is one flaw and that flaw is that there isn’t enough! I need more and I need it now, well maybe not right now I would like it to last for a long long time. But seriously I absolutely loved the show. Before I talk more about The Sandman, I feel compelled to say that I haven’t read any of the comics. But now that that’s out of the way time to gush about Sandman!

So, when I first heard that this show was being made like a year or 2 ago(I can’t remember) I knew immediately that I would love it. Unlike other shows where I try to keep my expectations low, so I don’t get disappointed, this one they were astronomically high. And… NOT. A. SINGLE. EXCEPTION. WAS. CRUSHED. It was everything I wished for and more.

I don’t really feel the need to get into the beautiful special effects and the perfect cast so, I’m just going to talk about my 2 favorite parts of the show. The first is Dreams voice! Oh my gosh, it was perfect! It was like a deep raspy whisper and I enjoyed listening to every second Tom spoke. My second favorite part is also many many other peoples favorite. And that is the Hob Gadling half of The Sound of Her Wings episode. Of course I loved the whole episode but there was just something special about seeing Dream making a friend for life.

One thing that I also really liked that honestly surprised me was that the show had an almost anthology/slice-of-life feel to it. Now usually, I’m not a fan of anthologies but the way this show went about it was really enjoyable to me. My biggest wish for the show(besides it being renewed of course) is that there will me more slice-of-life episodes. Like, I just want to see Dream going about his daily life without any world altering events happening. I would be so amused the whole time.

Oh! I almost forget another thing that I absolutely adore about the show, which doesn’t even really deal with the actual show. That is Neil Gaiman’s defense of the show. As a fan of adaptions(who’s gotten used to being let down) having the creator not only be a huge part of the creation but also defend it is amazing.

So, as you might have guessed I give this show a 1000000000000000000 out of 10.

Thor Love and Thunder

I feel conflicted with this movie because, on one hand, I had a lot of fun watching it in theaters while on the other hand, I’ve been enjoying the more serious MCU movies more than this one. So, I both liked and just a teeny bit disliked it. My only, but pretty significant, problem was that there were too many jokes. It was constantly one joke after another, which is fine for a plain old comedy, but for a movie that is also trying to go over some serious stuff, it’s a little much. Almost any serious moment is basically forgotten because it’s overshadowed by funny. While Love and Thunder is definitely not in my top 10 MCU movies I do think it’s a good addition. I feel like it makes a good palate cleanser you know, after watching some sad/darker ones you get to watch a nice cheery one.

I also reluctantly feel like I have to mention the one thing that people would not shut up about with this movie…the CGI. I hope I’m not the only one here but I did not give a shit about “bad” CGI. I don’t know if I’m just easy to please when it comes to special effects but Thor was completely fine to me. Sure when people posted stills on Twitter they looked pretty fake but not once did I notice anything that looked like shit when watching the movie. And I like to think that that has something to do with the fact that movies are meant to be watched when they’re playing not when they’re paused.

So, all together I would give Thor Love and Thunder a 7 out of 10. Good but not my favorite.

Movie Review Dump

Due to a massive amount of procrastination, I am very late for these reviews so I thought I might as well give a little blurb for each movie. Because as you know better late than never!

The Bad Guys

This was one of those kids movies that is good but also falls into the sad trope that kids movies don’t need to be complex or too detailed. I had fun watching it but afterwards I just kept wondering/wishing they would have done a little world building. Specifically why were there only 7 anthropomorphic animals in the whole city and why was no one mentioning that?!?!?! So because it was an okay just lacking on the explanation I would give it a 6 out of 10.

Jurassic World Dominion

I know a lot of people didn’t like this movie but I say fuck that! I enjoyed it so much! I love all of the new types of dinos that they brought in that we haven’t seen before. I also really enjoyed the little nods to stuff from the other movies. All around I thought it was a perfect wrap-up of the Jurassic era. So I give it a solid 9 out of 10.

There’s not much I have to say about Lightyear except that it was a very good movie. I can’t really remember any flaws to it and I thought all the nods to the Buzz toy were cool. Because of that, I’m giving it an 8 out of 10.

Biographies are always one of those things that I’m not sure I have the “right” to review since most of the time I don’t really know the actual story of the person, so I can’t say if it’s accurate or not. But I’ll try anyways I’m split on this movie because it was very interesting (if true) but it was extremely long for a biopic. But the length was the least of my concern, the biggest thing I wished they did was focus more on young Elvis. So really I’m not sure if I liked it or not so I’m giving it a 5 out of 10.

Top Gun Maverick Review

Top Gun was a great movie, no doubt about it, but I find it more interesting how it measures up to the original. I am not afraid to admit that it was a million times better than the original. For me, the sequel being better can be boiled down to two main parts.

The most obvious one which anyone with eyes can agree with is the effects/filming is just so much better in every way imaginable. Just watching and listening to the movie in the theater was an amazing experience. I could actually imagine how this movie could make people want to become pilots. This movie was a prime example of why I love newer movies so much because the technology that makes them is so amazing. I can only imagine what future tech will create.

The second and more controversial take was that I believe that this movie had a much more concise and clear plot. To me, the first movie felt like it was split into 3 parts that were connected by very thin threads. I just didn’t feel like the original flowed, but Maverick on the other hand had a very straightforward plot with a clear goal. Which honestly helped me enjoy this movie so much more because I wasn’t confused about where it was going.

These 2 things put together created an extremely enjoyable movie to watch which I give a 10 out of 10.

Doctor Strange 2 Review

Even though the internet has already let the cats out of the bag I’m still going to attempt to review this without spoilers (mostly to challenge myself). First things first this movie was crazy! It was an insane and brutal rollercoaster ride of a movie that I enjoyed every second of.

The main thing I enjoyed, which many have already mentioned, is that this movie is another example of how this Phase is becoming darker/more mature. This change can not only be seen in the more violent fights but also in the darker themes of trauma, abuse, and of course loss throughout the MCU. It feels cliché to say but I just really love how this Phase is getting darker since it almost feels like the MCU has been growing up alongside me.

On a less serious note, I also can’t get enough of how they do the different types of magic. They always look so cool(especially all the different colors for all the spells) and I can’t wait to see even more magic in the rest of Phase 4. All in all, I give this movie a 9 out of 10.

Fantastic Beasts: Secrets of Dumbledore Review

Even though I saw this movie opening weekend it took me this long to write a review because I have a pretty big bias when it comes to anything dealing with the Wizarding World. And that bias is *drumroll* You guessed it! Complete and utter love! So, I wanted to give my opinions sometime to stew to see if they changed. But wouldn’t you know they haven’t.

Honestly I just love every little addition to the Wizarding World so I have an extremely hard time seeing anything wrong with them. I just enjoy learning as much as I can about the magically world. I especially love how these movies are letting us see the actual “World” and not just Britain. But what I love even more than the world building is my dearest Newt, I love him with all my heart. I don’t know what it says about me but I just adore my socially awkward animal lover. Without Newt I would have still been a reluctantly proud Hufflepuff instead of a loud and proud Hufflepuff I am! But really I truly enjoy how these movies are telling an important story (that we vaguely heard about in the HP movies) mainly from the point of view of someone who you would have thought of as unimportant.

I only have one complaint and that is that I wish that we got to meet just one more new magical creature. That would have been the icing on the cake, at least I got more of Teddy(my second favorite love of FB). So, I would rate this an 8 out of 10. I will also say it was better then the 2nd movie but not as great as the 1st one.

Sonic the Hedgehog 2 Review

This is another one of those movies that I don’t have too much to say about it. That’s because it’s one of those movies that is fun to watch but once you leave the theater you don’t really think about it the rest of the day. On one hand Sonic is one of those kid movies that is actually enjoyable for adults to watch but on the other hand it was very similar to the first one. So, I wasn’t left left awed and thought it was an average movie.

There is one thing that does awe me about the Sonic movies is the fact that it got a second movie and what appears to be plans for a third all because the makers of the movie listened to the internet. I 100% believe that if the makers didn’t listen to all the shit they were getting about the original animation style of what Sonic was going to look like then the movie would have tanked. But since they did end up reanimating Sonic it’s only natural that it became a big success. That’s really the one reason I’m pretty impressed with the Sonic movies.

But back on topic I would give the movie a 6 out of 10. Worth it to see once in theaters.

Morbius Review

First things first this movie did not deserve the amount of hate it’s getting. Was it perfect? No. But it wasn’t horrible either. I thought it was perfectly fine. I do wish it was so much better then it was because I was super hyped for Morbius, but not every movie can be amazing sadly.

For me there was really only one huge flaw and that was that it was super fast. Like someone I know described it as it seemed like it was playing at 1.5 speed. Which makes complete sense. It moved so quickly from one scene to the next that it left almost no time for character/plot development. It feels like they just wanted to get Morbius’s origin story over quickly so they could move straight into the meet up movies. Which I don’t necessarily fault them for wanting to do if it’s true.

But besides the quickness I didn’t really mind the rest of it. That might also be because I love vampire stuff so I was just really happy to have a superhero vampire mashup movie. That is probably why I’m trying to be optimistic about possible future team ups with Venom. All in all I’d give Morbius a 6 out of 10. Not great but average.

The Lost City Review

It’s no surprise to me that this movie was undeniably funny, I mean what would you expect from a comedy staring Sandra Bullock and Channing Tatum they’re amazing. Plus what’s better then Daniel Radcliffe as a villain? Nothing that’s what. Since it’s probably no surprise to anyone else that this is a good movie I’m just going to quickly talk about what I think set this movie apart from other rom-coms.

And that is what I’d like to call the perfect ratio between funny and serious. There wasn’t too many serious parts so it kept its rom-com feel but there also wasn’t so few scenes that it felt wrong to have them in the first place. I was also surprised by the combination of cliché and unpredictable. Like, I simultaneously knew and not knew what was going to happened. Which weirdly made the movie even more fun to watch. So, with this balance I would give The Lost City a 7 out 10.
