Disney Live-Action Remakes : Thoughts

Before I get into my thoughts on all of their remakes I first want to give my mini opinions on the ones I’ve seen so far.

  • The Jungle Book= I kind of forgot about this one but it was a good remake.
  • Beauty and the Beast= I enjoyed it.
  • Aladdin= I loved it.
  • The Lion King= I was a little disappointed but I was still pretty okay with it.
  • Lady and the Tramp= This one was surprisingly good.
  • Mulan= Complete shit! I was so angry with this one.
  • Cruella= I quite liked this one.

With that out of the way time to get into the nitty-gritty. I am both semi-annoyed and kind of happy about the never-ending influx of live-action remakes. But recently I’ve started to think more along the lines of “Hey the original still exists so why not make a live-action and if it’s good that amazing and if not I can just never watch the new one again.” I was a little shocked when I heard they already want to do Moana(I definitely think it’s waaaaaay too soon for that one) but honestly, I don’t mind if they make more live actions especially if that means they’ll eventually make live actions of Treasure Plant and Atlantis! I would die for those to be remade! If they remade those two and they were on the level of Lion King I would be so happy. Now If they were on the level of Mulan that would be an entirely different story. But all of this is to basically say that I have gotten to the point of hating the thought of Disney doing another live-action.

Random mini thought #1: Schrödinger’s TV Show

Forget Schrödinger’s Cat, I’m petitioning we change it to Schrödinger’s TV Show. Now, if you are as obsessed with TV shows as I am you might be able to guess where I’m going with this but for those of you who are not let me explain. In Schrödinger’s TV Show, the cat is the tv show, being alive or dead is being renewed/canceled, and opening the box is obviously googling. So, if you never google what’s the fate of a beloved show then it is both canceled and renewed at the same time. Which then in turn makes you both hopeful and depressed at the same time, WooHoo.

But seriously, I’m going through this dilemma right now with the Lockwood & Co. show. Even though I’m preparing myself for a cancellation, I haven’t tried looking it up because I don’t want to confirm my fear. If I don’t google it I can still have hope that it will come back! As everyone knows “Ignorance is bliss” which is Schrödinger’s TV Show’s motto. So, with most TV shows I like I’ve taken the approach of “sit around and wait for the wind will blow the lid off the box” aka wait till the news of cancellation or renewal comes across my Twitter feed naturally.

This might not be as deep as the original thought experiment but I like the comparisons enough that I declare(with absolutely no authority) that Schrödinger’s Cat is now Schrödinger’s TV Show.

The President Heads Thoughts

So, most of my family and I went to see the President Heads this weekend and if you know anything about it then it’s exactly what you’d expect. It just screams eerie dystopian landmark. Which is what makes it cool. My main thought I had after visiting is that I’m “afraid” for when it either has to close permanently(because all the heads have completely decayed) or the bigger “fear” that it will eventually become too commercialized. I’m more worried about that second “fear” because the thing that makes this place special is that it has that vibe of being a little know roadside attraction with a touch of “finding an abandoned building in a forest” mystery to it. And once it becomes too popular they would have to eventually do things like make actual sidewalks, add drainage, add protection from the elements, and worst of all restore the heads. Doing all of that would ruin the feel of this place. But at the same time if stuff like that doesn’t happen then eventually the heads won’t exist anymore so really it’s a double edged sword. I’m just glad that I’ve seen it now before any of that has a chance at happening.

Six The Musical Review

Here’s another musical for the hit pile! Everything about this show was excellent the story…superb, the costumes…top-notch, and the songs…bangers. I had so much fun watching this show. I loved how not only every character was so unique that I couldn’t pick a favorite but so too were the songs. But, I might not be to pick my favorite wife or my favorite song but I can pick my favorite part of the entire show. That is of course the costumes! I am a huge sucker for really really cool costumes and this show hit it out of the park. I loved every outfit which is actually surprising for someone who’s a staunch disliker of the color pink. But hey, even I can’t hate on the awesomeness of these outfits.

Honestly, I can’t even really think of something bad about this show. Even its length was perfect, not too long and not too short, juuuust right. Not to mention that it was informative in a super fun way just like Hamilton. And just like Hamilton after a few watches/listens I’ll have this new little chunk of history memorized to a T. Now, I said there isn’t anything bad about this show but there is one thing I wished they’d change to make it a million times better for me. I wish they made it less concert-like and more actual show-like. I personally like Broadway shows better than concerts so I do wish it was a tad less like a concert. But that’s the only thing I wished was different so this show gets a big 9 out of 10.

Bad Cinderella Review

Even before seeing this musical, I had already heard the mixed reviews of it and I honestly don’t understand the bad reviews. Sure it’s not going to be the next Phantom of the Opera or Hamilton but it clearly wasn’t even trying to be in the first place. It’s very obvious that this isn’t a show that takes itself seriously and is just trying to have some fun. I mean anyone who saw a single preview clip and had half a brain could tell that this show was going to be ridiculous. So, that’s exactly what I went in expecting and of course that’s what I got, a fun crazy Cinderella story with a bunch of shirtless men(which I won’t deny I quite enjoyed).

Sure I wasn’t a huge fan of every single song but I really enjoyed Cinderella’s outfit and the sets. Which I feel like made up for the songs I didn’t like as much. What did surprise me was how it was both a twist on the classic Cinderella story while also staying true to the original story. I felt like it gave you the best of both worlds that way. While other people didn’t like this musical I actually had a lot of fun watching it and would give it a 7 out of 10.

I Miss Them

What’s them you ask? Well, it’s supernatural crime dramas of course. And no I don’t mean shows like Supernatural, I mean shows where a vampire/werewolf/medium/mind reader, etc. solves normal crimes (with an occasional supernatural crime thrown in there). I feel like in the early 2000’s there were a bunch of shows like this and I miss them soooo much. Recently I got in the mood of re-watching this type of show so I’ve just been going back and forth between this one Canadian show called The Listener(mind reader) and another show called Moonlight(vampire). Sure sometimes they can get a little cheesy(especially the vampire ones) but on the whole, I just can’t get enough of them. Especially this one Korean drama called Vampire Detective, I love it so much and would just kill to see them do more of it or for someone to make another show like it(either or is fine with me).

I really enjoy the crime drama genre, which is great with the abundance of that type of genre right now but we’re severely lacking in the supernatural crime drama genre. And I want a comeback for that subgenre! More than that, I neeeeeed a comeback, there are only so many times I can rewatch the same old shows over and over again. Plus I think with the combination of people being really into nostalgia right now and a Twilight resurgence on the internet it would be the perfect time to bring back this peak genre. So, I hope by putting this out into the world that the universe will grant my wish and bring this genre back in all it’s glory!

My Top 10 Bots!

Since there’s no new Battle Bots episode tonight I decided I’ll fill that Battle Bots-sized hole in my heart with my official top 10 favorite bots.

  1. SAWBLAZE!!!!
    • If you’ve read any of my previous predictions then this one isn’t surprising. I just think it’s perfect in every way. Great defense, offense, and its got great style. Plus nothing can beat a dragon-headed blade! And of course, a very humble team is always a plus for me.
  2. HYDRA
    • I really like flippers and most agree that Hydra is the best flipper around so far. I also think it has a pretty nice theme.
  3. SHATTER!
    • This might actually be a surprising one for some people but I really enjoy hammer bots and I love how fast Shatter is and I’m a pretty big sucker for omni-wheels. And I just can’t get enough of the iridescent pieces on it. (Style is very important to me as you might have guessed)
  4. HYPERSHOCK
    • I love the speed, the craziness, and as also the color scheme! I do have to admit that just a few years ago I wasn’t that big of a fan of the Hypershock team but they’ve really grown on me recently.
  5. WHIPLASH
    • It’s fast, great color scheme, and of course Matty Vasquez’s amazing driving! What more could you want?
  6. QUANTUM
    • Quantum’s really become one of my tops this year. It just looks so cool and I can’t stop myself from saying “chomp” every time it bites into anything.
  7. DEEP SIX
    • This is probably very shocking to a lot but they have a specific place in my heart after they made that huge divot in the Battle Bots floor.
  8. KRAKEN
    • Kraken’s kind of like Quantum in the way that I love it when the bots look like they’re actually biting each other.
  9. SKORPIOS
    • What can I say I love me a hammer saw bot!
  10. MONSOON
    • Classy style and can pack a good punch, what more do you need.

Well, these are my top 10. I do have to say that depending on the day numbers 2-5 can sometimes switch but usually, they stay in that order.

Hogwarts Lego Set

Since the moment I learned about this set I wanted it sooooooooo bad, but obviously had a hard time convincing myself to buy it. Because as anyone knows Legos can be a tad pricey, but finally with a gift card that helped lower the price I decided to buy. So I just wanted to share my pics of it.

Day 1

Day 2

I didn’t take any progress pictures throughout the day since I was so focused on finishing it so here are some pics of the different areas.

Complete!!!!!!

First off I was so proud of myself that I was able to finish building it in 2 days. Second, oh my gosh my fingers hurt! The number of single squares was insane, and the number of leftover spares was even crazier. I know they’re important if you lose a piece, but if you don’t lose any then it’s just a bunch of annoying pieces. But anyway all I know is that I loved building this set!

Bingeing Vs. Weekly Watching

Today I was randomly thinking about if I prefer binge-watching or weekly watching more. I definitely prefer weekly watching then bingeing. I think the only time binge-watching is fine is when it’s either a short season or the episodes are short. Anything outside of those parameters is much harder to binge, it’s not impossible just harder, especially for someone with a busy schedule. Obviously, I still binge when I can but I think that’s more due to the fact that I’m afraid of spoilers. That’s probably why I think weekly episodes are better because it is way easier to avoid spoilers for a single episode than for an entire season.

Another plus for weekly episode watching in my book is probably a con for others, but that is that it lasts longer. I get to have more time to obsess about the show, predict future events, and even more time to create head cannons. The only 2 benefits I can think of for binge-watching are that if you can watch all the episodes at once then you feel successful and that it can be fun doing a binge marathon with others. But besides that, there are way more benefits of weekly episode watching than binge watching and if Netflix decides to only do weekly episodes I would be a-okay.

The only con I can think of for weekly watching is that if you get behind by a week or two it sometimes gets hard to catch up. But that’s really the only con I can think of so I’m for weekly watching all the way!

Hardest Part of Being a Nerd

You may think it’s the money you have to spend on everything like merch, cons, books, tickets, legos, collectibles, etc. but that’s not the worst part. The truly worst part is the waiting. Waiting for release dates(books and movies), waiting for casting, waiting for any smidgen of news just to know that other people besides yourself are still thinking about it too. That last one’s the worst because when you can’t find any news on one of your obsessions you start to get paranoid that you’re the only one that likes it so why in the world would they continue/do whatever it is, even though the one thing you can find is other people asking the same question. So, I decided to make a list of all the things I can think of right now that I am dying to know but there’s been no news so far. And by doing this hopefully it will put good vibes out into the universe and finally I’ll get the answers/info I’ve been craving.

  • The release date for Winter’s Teeth (Sherwood’s Doom #2) by Tim Hall- I did a whole blog post just about my journey of trying to find out more about this book but obviously still nothing. This one is probably the one I’m most desperate for new, I literally check Tim Hall’s Goodreads once every few weeks to see if there’s news.
  • The release date of the Red, White & Royal Blue movie. I’m just like damn how much post-production is there needed for a romance movie!
  • Set photos from Netflix’s live-action Avatar the Last Airbender. I flip-flop back and forth between being optimistic and pessimistic with this show and I just need to see everyone in costume so that I can truly figure out how high or low I should set my expectations.
  • Any type of news about the Assassin’s Creed show Netflix is supposed to make. It’s been years and I just need to know if doing that show is still a plan or did they scrap it.
  • Info on the next season of a couple of shows Warrior, 50m2 (think it got renewed but now I’m not sure), The Tourist to name a few.
  • Anything about a shit ton of webcomics from artists that I find on Insta who are planning on making a comic or are on hiatus.

There are probably more things I want to know but I can’t think of anymore right now.
