Champions is one of those movies that don’t need a long-winded review. Because it has the two most important parts an inspirational sports movie should have, heart and comedy. When you have an abundance of heart in a movie it really helps to have some comedy to lighten the mood. Besides that, there were two more details that stuck out to me in this movie. First, I think Woody Harrelson was a perfect fit for Marcus. Having an actor that fits the character is extremely important and Champions excelled at that. Secondly, I liked the fact that they included a variety of people with disabilities, they didn’t just show the same type of person over and over again. It was a great way to show how all disabilities are different.
Now I do have to say that as much as I enjoyed watching I’m not hugely enamored with the movie. I think that’s mostly due to sports movies being one of my least favorite genres. I just can’t love them even though they are really good. So, I would have to give this movie a 6.5 out of 10.
