With the start of my area’s renn faire season and in honor of my first visit of the season I wanted to share some thoughts. The first thought is more of a suggestion on how to explain what renn faires are/how to prepare themselves to faire noobs. I like to say that it’s basically shopping in costumes with the occasional performance. But with the endurance that is required from an amusement park visit. That last part can be a surprise to some, which I learned this year when our group had some noobs. I also had a realization this time that no place can make me want to act like a damsel and give a knight(I’m looking at you Sir Keagan) a token more than a renn faire.
Renn faires also make me constantly say to myself “Oh my gosh that is so expensive!” immediately followed by “Of course, it’s expensive all the time and effort and craftsmanship that went into making it!”. It’s a constant struggle. But it’s also a challenge to find those perfect items that are so amazing but within a limit that that lousy financially focused part of your mind lets you get. When you find that item it’s incredible.
I did have one thought/wish about my specific renn faire and it has to do with the bathrooms. Honestly, I would much rather have longer lines for the bathroom if it meant they could do those fancy porta potty’s instead of the dreaded blue ones. The real wish would be for actual bathrooms but I know that’s a stretch. Plus those bigger trailer ones would make it so much better for people with complicated/big costumes.
Well those are all my various renn faire thoughts for today, maybe I’ll have more next visit.
