Awesome Con: Thoughts

Like any self-respecting nerd I love conventions, so as expected I went to Awesome Con this past weekend. While I was there I had a thought while waiting in line for an autograph that I wanted to share. First, for those unaware celebrities fall into two categories when signing autographs. The first category is the keep the fans moving/speed through them type and the second is the take your time and talk to each fan type. I wanted to talk about how the second type is a double-edged sword if you know what I mean. On the one hand, when you’re waiting in line for hours and you’re trying to fit in a bunch of other things you want nothing more than the guest to hurry up. But on the other hand, in the moment nothing feels better than when the guest makes you feel comfortable by starting up a conversation. While I hate waiting in a long ass line like everyone else as someone who never knows what to say even though I so badly want to talk to them I am so grateful when the guest talks to me first.

This con I got to get autographs from Charlie Cox, Wilson Bethel, and Bryce Papenbrook and while I will prize Charlie Cox’s above the others Bryce fell into that second category so it was unforgettable. I was originally unsure if I was going to try to get Bryce’s autograph but I’m so glad I did. While the line took a long time and I cut it real close to the exhibit floor closing that little conversation I had with him made me so happy. So, for any con newbies or for those who are thinking about going to their first con just remember there is a rainbow at the end of that loooooooong line.
