In preparation for the new season that came out today, I finally got around to watching Blood Origin(I know I’m way behind) so of course I want to share a few thoughts I had on it. The most important thought is that I feel like they made the perfect limited run spinoff/prequel. Now, don’t get me wrong I don’t mean it was a perfect show what I mean is that it was a perfect length, the story was all wrapped up, and it had just enough connections to the main show. All of this combined was able to create a show that left me satisfied but not wanting more of those characters. Which in my mind is what you want with a limited-run spinoff/prequel. You want people to like it enough that it gets them hyped for the main show but not too much that they only care about the spinoff now. And that’s exactly what Blood Origin did for me.
Some other thoughts I had was that Blood Origin just reminded me how much I looooooooove the costuming for this world. This is one of those shows that I always lament over the fact that society isn’t ready for people to dress like this casually. I also adored having the show being a story told to Jaskier. I can’t get enough of my favorite bard! The only issue I really had was that the romance between Fjall and Éile felt really rushed to me. I don’t know if it was actually longer but the show felt like it took place in a span of a week so I was like “Really it’s only been a week and you’re already at the I’ll die for you phase?”. But that’s really the only problem I had so I would give this show an 8 out of 10.
