Despite having great characters, a great plot, and an even better message, my favorite part was actually the world itself. I already knew I liked it, but this movie solidified my love of combining medieval and futuristic aesthetics. There’s just something I find so fascinating and entertaining about a world that has knights, laser swords, flying cars, mythical monsters, and laser cannons! It’s the best of both worlds.
Now, I know I kind of glossed over the most important part of the movie(the message) at the beginning but honestly, I feel like everything’s already been said. So, since I don’t really have anything new to add to that discussion I’m just going to leave it at I absolutely love how Nimona is unapologetically herself. No one is going to Nimona what to do or who to be and I love that.
While I really enjoyed this movie there were something’s I would have liked to be different. The one thing I would have liked for them to add was a quickish montage of Ballister’s life before the ceremony. I feel like that would have made me even more invested in his story. Now, the one other issue I had is just a personal preference and honestly the more time that passes the less it bothers me. I just wasn’t a huge fan of how they did the characters legs, some felt too straight and others got super skinny at the bottom. I know it’s stupid but at some points it kind of weirded me out. But I think the more I watch it the more it will grow on me.
So all in all I would give Nimona a 7 out of 10.
