Throwback Thoughts: Spirit & Anastasia

Recently I shared the perfection that is both Spirit and Anastasia to my niece and nephew and I wanted to share some thoughts. Before I get into the real thoughts I of course have to say that the animation has still held up. Top-notch if I do say so! Also from their reactions I would probably say they liked Anastasia more. Now back to the previously scheduled thoughts.

First, I was a little worried about showing them Anastasia because I remembered that Rasputin in Limbo and all of the demon scenes scared me as a kid. Don’t get me wrong I absolutely loved(and still do love) this movie but those scenes scared me. So I was afraid that I was going to traumatize them or at least would have to deal with nightmares when they went to bed. But nothing of the short happened which came as a huge shocker to me.

My second thought was that I think that kids(unless they’re horse girls) don’t truly appreciate the amazingness that is Spirit. That is mostly due to the fact that I feel like as a kid unless the actual characters are singing the songs you don’t really pay attention to the music. And anyone with any taste in music at all knows that Spirit has a truly bombass soundtrack. Like one of my favorite soundtracks of all times awesomeness. Plus I feel like it’s a tad difficult explaining to a kid the importance of freedom and don’t even get me started on the problems of the US military in the Old West. So, I can understand why they would have been more interested in Anastasia over Spirit.

Welp those are the thoughts I wanted to share, hope you enjoyed them.
