I was in a dragon mood, and by god, this book met that desire. But honestly, my favorite part was how the author portrayed Alec’s trauma. There are so many books out there that don’t take into account the after-effects of a traumatic past. So, when I come across a book where the mc actually has mental/emotional/social issues and things that trigger them I get excited. I feel like it adds that bit of realism to the fantasy world. My second favorite part of this book was Jade herself. I feel like Jade toed the line perfectly between a “damsel in distress” and an “independent woman who don’t need no man”. It’s always hard to find a female character who is strong but doesn’t hate a man helping her. So Jade was a breath of fresh air.
As much as I love this book there is one thing that is annoying me. That is the fact that I really really really want Alec to be able to physically turn into a dragon but that isn’t looking too promising right now. So, I’m going to (stupidly I feel like) keep my hopes up that in a later book he can transform. But all together I would give this book an 8 out of 10.
