Golden Son(Red Rising Book 2) Review

After the first one I was already hooked, so it’s no surprise I loved this one too. It’s always funny to say this, but the constant anxiety this book gave me was amazing. I was never able to predict if Darrow’s ideas were going to succeed or not, which of course kept me on edge the whole time. I saw another review mention “flawed characters” and I think that is this book/series secret sauce. All the characters, especially Darrow have flaws and fuck up in one way or another, so you’re constantly seeing them evolve and learn from their mistakes.

While I was reading I was trying to describe the writing style to myself since it’s very unique and what I finally settled on was “poetically violent”. Basically, it’s both beautiful and harsh, there are no frills. It’s the exact type of writing you’d expect from a high-tech warrior society that is obsessed with ancient Rome.

I absolutely love everything about this book, even that cliffhanger! On that note, I just have to say a cliffhanger like that after everything seems to be coming together is a true gut punch. The last thing I have to say is my love for Sevro has grown even stronger, and if that little goblin dies I will burn the world! Oh yeah, and of course this book gets a 10 out of 10.
