The Arcane Academy(The Undying Magician Book 1)

After jumping from Kindle Book to Kindle Book, I finally settled on The Arcane Academy and I was really happy with it. While I love pure fantasy, I really like it when books combine sci-fi with fantasy. They have all the fun of magic but with the ease of technology! But my absolute favorite part of this book was the actual school part. I’ve read quite a few books with magic schools, and while they were great, some tend to breeze past the class parts. So, I really loved the details put into describing the classes and day-to-day schedule. I love it when it’s specific like that because then I can imagine myself in the story even more easily.

One thing that I was surprised that I didn’t mind was the level-up system. The level-up system stuff has gotten on my nerves lately because it seems like it’s in every single anime plus I feel like it takes a little bit of the magic out of magic. But this book succeeded in making it in a way that still felt magical and not like a video game set-up.

While I did have a great time reading this book there was one problem. The characters particularly, the main character, were just a tad too “it is what it is”. There were so many moments where I was like why aren’t you yelling/freaking out/obsessing over things just a little bit more. By having them move on very easily it took away some of the emotion from the story. But despite that, I still liked the book and would give it a 7 out of 10.
