To Flail Against Infinity (The Stargazer’s War Book 1)

The best way to get me to read a Sci-Fi book is to throw in a bit of magic, so it’s no wonder I felt compelled to read this book. Right away, I’m saying this book is amazing because it made me cry very early on. Sure, I only cried once the whole book, but once is good enough for me to say it’s great. If a book can affect my emotions enough to make me cry it’s something special.

Now, there are also some non-emotional parts that I love that I want to talk about. The first being the inclusion of qi. I always find it interesting when someone includes an ancient belief in a futuristic setting. It always gets me wondering what beliefs and such will make it into our real futures. My other favorite part is Cal himself! So many times I come across a character who’s described as a “mouth gets them in trouble” type of character, but they never actually live up to the hype. But man, Cal is the epitome of a “mouth gets them in trouble” character and I’m all for it. He will truly jump straight into a fire just for a joke. And then you combine that with his desire to shake up a stiff society and you get a super fun character. Since I was really entertained by this book I’m going to give it a 9 out of 10.
