I decided to read this book because I needed something light and fun to read after the torment Iron Flame’s ending caused. It was probably the best book I could have read at that point! I was laughing at almost 90% of the book, which I was honestly surprised about. I’ve mentioned this before in a few other reviews for LitRPG books and even some anime reviews, but I’m not a huge fan of the whole leveling-up ability points magic system stuff(seems to take away the magic of magic) and am even more tired of Isekais so I was shocked that I enjoyed it in this book. I think the fact that the main character and his son knew about anime(and all the tropes) and it was actively talked about made it hilarious. Instead of it annoying me, it was more like I was sharing in the craziness too.
Another thing I was incredibly impressed with was how Vincent’s lack of certain emotions was written. It was so well done that it felt accurate; by that, I mean that what he was thinking/saying/doing all matched up. I’ve read another book once where the main character isn’t supposed to have emotions, but so many times it felt like he was doing something that he literally said he wouldn’t do because he didn’t have emotions. So, I loved that everything Vincent did felt authentic to his character.
One last thing I wanted to mention was the ending! Honestly, I almost cried at those last few paragraphs. Not from sadness but tiredness. Somehow, I felt how tired Vincent was by the end, and I just kept saying “Let my man take a goddamn nap”. I had so much fun reading this and can’t wait till the next, so I’m giving it a 9 out of 10.
