I recently listened to this book on Spotify and liked it a lot. But there were one to two things that kept me from loving it. First, I want to say that as a whole I loved the story, as I’m always looking for new vampire series. I also love seeing authors’ different takes on half-vampires, and I have to say Dillion is definitely a new template for dhampires for me. Considering I listened to this book, I do want to add that I really liked the narrator for it. I was impressed with all the different accents Gerard Logan could do.
Now the one huge thing that actually pissed me off that kept me from loving this book was Dillon’s “relationship” with Kora/Cora(I don’t know how it’s spelled since I didn’t physically read it). I was constantly annoyed by his obsession over a girl who kept stringing him along. Sure, I was pissed at Kora for continually giving Dillon false hope, but I was even more mad a Dillon for not seeing the writing on the wall and moving on. I would have much preferred him with Shadi(if that’s how it’s spelled). Another thing that was a minor annoyance was how Dillon was never a good leader. I can ignore that one since it seems like that bit is more due to character growth. But it was still annoying that he was supposed to be great at everything because he was a VE, but nobody even bothered to listen to him and/or he never actually took charge. Because of these issues I would give this book a 6.5 out of 10.
