PJO Series Review

First things first, this show was great overall! I loved watching every second of it, but of course, as a fan of the books I do have a few things I want to nitpick. Honestly, the thing I was most upset that they took out was the most inconsequential. I was really sad that Percy didn’t talk to the zebra! I was crushed since I felt like I was promised a zebra from the episode title but then no zebra showed up. Another one of my inconsequential issues was that from my memory(mind you, I haven’t done a re-read in a long time) the trio got past Cerberus by just playing fetch with him and becoming friends, so it was a little sad that they tricked/distracted him instead. My last little issue is that Percy’s fight with Clarisse was too quick and seemed too accidental. To me, it looked like Percy was just getting lucky so I think it should have been a tad longer. It could have started with Percy getting lucky at the beginning but ended with him showing off his skills.

While the little things are what disappointed me the most, weirdly enough, I was also conflicted about some of the bigger changes. The biggest change of course is the trio figuring out things too fast e.i. Medusa and Lotus Casino. While I’m not sure I liked that they knew right away to be wary, I completely understand the change since it makes no sense why these kids raised in this life wouldn’t see the huge signs. The other big issue is making Gabe a loser and not actually abusive. If he was a worse person then his getting turned to stone is a good thing, but since he wasn’t a horrible person it had the feeling of “oopsie daisy” instead of karma. I also feel like I have to mention that I too(like many other fans) actually liked the casino scene from the movie more than the show. It’s not that the show’s scene was bad, it’s just that the movie’s scene had that wildness that the show lacked. I feel like in his desire to separate the show from the movie Rick refused to admit that some of the movie was good.

Now, while I’ve really only talked about the things that I wasn’t happy I still loved this show and can’t wait for more, so I’m giving it an 8 out of 10.
