Where Divine Rivals was chill, relaxed, and low stakes (despite being at war) Ruthless Vows was stressful, fast-paced, and had dire consequences everywhere. And that is exactly why I loved this one way more than the first one! While I loved Divine Rivals, I could not get enough of Ruthless Vows it kept me on the edge of my seat the whole time. I also have to say that I definitely teared up more during Ruthless Vows, I didn’t necessarily cry, but my emotions were fucked with a lot! It’s probably been said before, but these books are a perfect complement to each other. Divine Rivals was the perfect start, and Ruthless Vows was the perfect finish.
My only non-positive thing I have to say is that I wish there were just 1 or 2 more moments where Roman played double agent before he remembered Iris. I would have liked to see him have an even bigger role in thwarting Dacres’ plans. I just felt he was a little underutilized for a bit, and it would been a great way to clearly show that Roman isn’t just a good guy because of Iris but that he’s a good guy all on his own. So, with all of that in mind, I would give Ruthless Vows a 9 out of 10.
