This book was interesting because it solidified my love of this series but at the same time I was a tad disappointed in it too. First, I can’t get enough of the magic in space! Adding magic is the perfect way to get me hooked on a sci-fi series. I also absolutely love the politics and seeing Damien be a badass politician that people are terrified of. It’s like seeing my baby boy all grown up! But despite my love of the book I was disappointed in two things.
The first and the lesser of my two disappointments was with the romance. I was really hoping for a sexytime scene where Grace sees all of his runes! But even more than that, I was hoping they would have figured out how to have some unusual but committed long-distance relationship. So, I was upset that there was only two make outs and nothing else, I wanted more.
Now, while the lack of longer romance was sad my true disappointment lies with the discussion of Damien’s mental health. When his mental health was brought to the forefront by mentioning stuff like him having nightmares, not sleeping, forgetting to eat, and let us not forget him not smiling anymore I was excited for that to be a bigger plot point. When that didn’t happen and it seemed to have been forgotten by the end of the book I was dissatisfied.
While there were a few things that let me down, I would still give this book an 8.5 out of 10. I just hope I get more of what I missed in this one in the rest of the series.
