It’s books like this that make me wonder why I don’t read more Sci-fi books. I loved every single second of this book. Part one alone had me bawling my eyes out so I knew right away that this book would be top-tier. The most amazing part of this book was its ability to make the reader feel the same dread and anxiety Darrow felt from not knowing if he was making the right decision or having to make the impossible decision. After the amazingness of this story’s emotional journey, my second favorite part would be the detail. The descriptions were so incredible that I could picture practically every second of the book. This is the type of book that you only want to see on a screen if it has a huge budget and is being made by true fans.
While I absolutely adored Morning Star, I do have one complaint. I was really disappointed that Darrow never had a PTSD-induced panic attack or something of the sort. I wanted some extremely emotional cry-inducing moment where he has a panic attack when he is trapped in a small space or gets caught in the dark and Sevro and Mustang are there to comfort him. Nothing gets to me more than when a character has a well-written panic attack. Plus, I’m not a huge fan of how it felt like his trauma from a year of torture was practically glossed over. Including a moment like that and the subsequent comfort from his loved ones would have been so moving. Even though I was sad that there was no panic attack, I still love this book so much and am giving it a 10 out of 10.
