A Darker Shade of Magic (Shades of Magic Book 1) Review

This book goes on the pile of great books that constantly remind me why I love fantasy so much. I loved so many things about this book, but my favorite was the magic system. After finishing a new book, I think I’ve seen every type of magic system there can be, but then, bam, new magic! When I first started this book, I was a little worried about the whole traveling to alternative worlds trope since I’ve gotten tired of it from all the webcomic/anime I read/watch, but this book handled it amazingly. I also loved the time period it’s set, I can’t get enough of books that have both swords and pistols.

My second favorite part of the book was how fast-paced and stressful it was! I don’t know if anyone else does this, but when I get stressed at a book, I clutch the open book to the top of my head with the hope that maybe when I look at the pages again, things won’t be so bad. With this book I was doing that a lot, and I had so much fun doing it. I can’t wait to get to the next book, so I’m giving A Darker Shade of Magic a 10 out of 10.

P.S. I really hope the next one turns into a bit more romantasy than just fantasy. I love both MCs and need them to love each other too.
