After finishing Caraval, I was super excited to see my boy Jacks in Once Upon A Broken Heart! Ever since that one “Who’s your book boyfriend” reel I saw, I’ve been eagerly waiting to get to his love story. OUABH was a great start to this series, and I had so much fun reading it. Books that have those moments where the MC is shocked when the character who keeps constantly saying they’re not a good person and to not trust them does something bad make me laugh so much. I might find it funny, but I honestly think the best part of this book was that Jacks was still one of those “not a good guy but not a bad guy” guys. It would have felt disingenuous and rushed if he turned good all of a sudden. That being said, I love that we get to see little snippets of how the events of Caraval affected him, his desire to be loved, and his potential to be good. This book was a great start to a new series, so I’m going to give it a 7 out of 10.
