I love medieval/Viking-themed stories and MMCs with tragic, traumatic pasts, so when I first came across Gallows Born, I immediately knew I wanted to read it. All in all, it was a great read! There are some books where I have a hard time picturing things, but not this one. I have such a clear picture in my head of what everything looks like, and I love it. Another thing I loved was how silent Bane was. When you have a character who’s quiet most of the time, everything they do end up saying is more significant. Now, while I thought this was a great book, and I’m excited to read the next one, there was one thing that kind of disappointed me. At a certain point, I started to expect/hope that there would be something like a 10-year time skip, and then the MCs would be highly skilled grownups before they reunited. When that didn’t happen, I was a little disappointed. The book was still great, but I guess I’m just at that point where I prefer my MCs to be adult adults and not fresh adults if you get what I mean. So, with everything in mind, I would give Gallows Born a 7 out of 10.
