I just love this series so much, every new addition makes me so happy. Plus reading the newest book right after reading a different book that I absolutely hated makes this book even better in my eyes. It’s the classic “I didn’t truly know how good I had it till it was gone” moment. Before I get into my biggest takeaway from Book 6 I need to explain/mention something. So, multiple times I’ve come across writers(even my own friend) saying stuff like “The characters changed the story” or “The characters are doing something I didn’t plan” and I’ve always been like well not really you are the one doing it. But with the juxtaposition of the last two books I read I think I understand that now. All of the characters from The Helsing Society series feel “real”. Or more specifically they feel like they are making their own decisions and not just puppets of the author. For all intents and purposes they feel like they have a “soul”, which is a good jumping off point for my second take away.
The ending(particularly that which is dealing with Krista) was perfect. Warning for Spoilers after this point! The skills at making good characters come out in the fact that for a moment in the end, I felt conflicted about Dylan killing Krista. I wanted her dead for Dylan but at the same time I was learning too much about her I started to feel bad. That’s why I think it was absolutely genius including the bit of Krista abandoning Trisha at the end. It was the perfect way to kill off a villain that we were getting to know with no guilt.
I know I already said this but I love this series and I hope it’s not tooooo long till we see Dylan and the gang again. But god forbid if this is the last we see of the gang I will die a happy reader. So, as you might have guessed I give this book a 10 out of 10.
