While some people hate that Disney bothered making this movie in the first place, I don’t mind at all, especially since I really liked it. I thought the songs were great, and the CGI looked fantastic. I even believe they fixed the biggest complaint from the live-action The Lion King, which was that the lions didn’t show emotions. If someone still has that complaint in Mufasa, then they’re lying or not paying attention because those lions were very expressive. I also think they hit that perfect middle ground of giving the villain (a.k.a Taka, a.k.a future Scar) a reasonable motivation for their future evilness, yet still made it clear that they are still the bad guy and are in the wrong. The only thing that I didn’t like was that they never actually looked wounded after fights and such. I get that it’s a kid’s movie, and they don’t want to have bloody lions everywhere, but I do think they could have put more effort into making the lions look injured after fights. It was just one of those moments where my adult logical mind refused to shut off and let me just enjoy the movie. With all of this in mind, I would give Mufasa a 9 out of 10.
