The 2 words I think of when I think of Encanto is cute and magical. It has almost everything needed for a new Disney princess movie. If Mirabel is even consider a Disney princess considering she is neither a princess, daughter of a chief, or a war hero. She also doesn’t have an animal side kick so that’s also is another problem, but besides that Mirabel is a great princess adjacent.
On the other hand my one of my favorite parts of this movie was the songs. I loved how they were so different from every other Disney movie, especially since some songs were almost rap like and I have a dream of a rapping Disney princess. So, baby steps. But the most important and best part of Encanto was of course Mirabel’s story. It basically boils down to the struggle of a young girl who wants to be seen in the same light has her more successful family members. And who just wants her family to be proud of her. Which I think is a story that many many people can relate too. The only thing I didn’t like was that even at the end she still doesn’t have a power which just seems unfair to me. So, all around I would give this movie a 7 out of 10.
