I was pleasantly surprised by this movie. I went in expecting nothing more than a guy fighting dinosaurs with futuristic weapons but instead, I got a shit ton of jump scares and even a little bit of heart. Throughout the entire movie, I was constantly on edge not knowing when the next dinosaur was going to show up. And even when it was obvious a dino was going to pop out it still got me every time. What else got to me was my desire for Mills and Koa to survive. Before going into the movie, I had tried to prepare myself in case it wasn’t a happy ending, but as soon as I learned Mills had a dying daughter all that preparation was destroyed. I just couldn’t stop myself from hoping for the best.
Now, while I had fun watching the movie I was a little annoyed by the fact that they were actually on Earth and not on an Earth-like planet. Making it be the actual Earth just makes me start thinking about the wreckage left behind and what would happen if people found it. Which is stupid I know but I wish it was a different planet so that I would be stuck on that thought. I also wish they had some more recognizable dinosaurs, especially since it’s supposed to be Earth. I know we can’t be 100% sure that dinosaurs look like how we think, which can allow for some creative dinos in a movie like this, but I would have liked to see more dinosaurs that I knew. All in all, I think this movie was pretty okay and would give it a 7 out of 10.
