I’m calling this a thoughts post instead of a review because everyone knows this show is amazing, so a review is pointless(but is a 10 out of 10 anyways), but I do want to get some of my thoughts written down. First to all of those naysayers out there complaining about this season being less funny/more serious I’ve just got to say… you’re crazy that’s the best part! Not the less funny part because that’s a lie(it’s just as funny as every other season) but the more serious part since it’s showing how the show is growing just like the characters. Plus we knew it was ending so of course it was going to have a different feel overall since you can’t end a show like Ted Lasso lightly.
Now to all of the people complaining about the finale, you’re even crazier than the naysayers. It’s a perfect ending because it’s not perfect! I mean come on Higgins literally gave an entire speech about how no one’s perfect so of course the ending can’t be all unicorns and rainbows. Even though I would have loved that too, I realized that would have felt faked and forced. And to the people saying that Ted gave “nothing” in the finale, I’m just wondering did you not pay attention to his face at all? He didn’t need to physically say anything everyone knew exactly what Ted was thinking.
After this season I think something I noticed is, while all the other characters were learning to stay optimistic and not fret the negative Ted was learning that he doesn’t have to pretend everything is okay all the time. It’s okay if everything isn’t okay. Which is also why I think the ending works really well. He clearly feels conflicted about leaving Richmond but he still has to leave, and I think that last scene is showing how he’s learning to be happy by finding perfection in the imperfect.
Oh, and lastly to all those Tedbecca stans out there. You’re the craziest for even thinking that Tedbecca was going to be a thing. It was so obvious they were meant to be friends and only friends.
Now the truly last thing is that I’ve prepared myself for this being the last bit of Ted Lasso we will ever get but I could definitely see it coming back in some form or other.
As always… Be Curious Not Judgmental, Be a Goldfish, and Believe!
